A showcase of concert bands and jazz bands. The music students of these schools have been working hard on developing their musicianship and ensemble sound. This will be a night for them to perform for the community. The bands will be led by Jennifer Matosevic and Justin Ratzburg. This is a fundraising performance and all proceeds will go towards the LVR and Trafalgar band programs.

We’re excited to bring the Mother’s Day Garden Starter Market back to its original location in the 200–300 block of Baker Street! We’re also switching things up this year: the event will now run on Sunday, May 10th from 10am–3pm. Laurel Smith and Aaron Pasacreta will be performing.

The regular season officially begins on Saturday, May 16th and will run until Saturday, October 31st. We will wrap up the season with a big Halloween Market. As usual, the Saturday market runs from 9am to 2pm at Cottonwood Falls Park, rain or shine. Call for Artists for 2026's Art Rental Program - The City of Nelson and its Cultural Development Committee are pleased to announce the Call for Artists for 2026's Art Rental Program. This program displays art by local and regional artists within the City’s indoor public spaces, promoting and reflecting the creative nature of Nelson.

“This program is a wonderful way to both support our talented and diverse pool of artists and bring a vibrancy to our City Hall, affirming the City’s commitment to supporting arts, culture and heritage,” says CDC Chair Sydney Black.

The deadline for submissions is May 22, 2026. Applicants are asked to provide electronic images of their pieces, along with the medium, dimensions, value and artist bio. All artwork must be suitably framed and ready for hanging.

Submissions will be adjudicated by the CDC’s Public Art Working Group, and the accepted works will be installed in June 2026.

Barb and Len are an inspiring pair. Longtime locals to Nelson, BC, they have contributed so much to this community, both individually and as a team - including starting The Kootenay Bakery Cafe Co-op, a wonderful hub for our community after 25 years...

This past year has been increasingly difficult for both of them. As Barbarah has faced serious health challenges, each and every day has been a walk into the unknown with multiple setbacks and few breakthroughs. Through a western medical lens, Barbarah has been grappling with a Parkinson’s diagnosis, but is looking at alternative and traditional health perspectives to find a path forward.

Barbarah is facing pain, discomfort, and greatly reduced capacity, so most days are demanding to say the least. Her mobility, sleep, comfort, and daily functioning have been deeply affected. She continues to strive for solutions and ways to move forward with grace.

Please help support Barbarah and Len through a very difficult season. Barbarah is facing serious health challenges, and funds raised will help with daily care, living costs, respite, and supportive therapies.

Shota and Maya here. We’re reaching out to share an update on our mom, Carla Hutchinson, and to ask for some support for our parents during a really challenging time for our family.

As many of you know, our mom was recently diagnosed with a very rare cancerous tumor in her foot. This required her to have a below-knee amputation of her right leg on December 11th in Vancouver.

Although the surgery went well, it’s been a big adjustment for her. For the foreseeable future, our mom won’t be able to keep up with her practice at Crystal Creek Physiotherapy. It’s been especially tough because she genuinely loves her work and is so dedicated to her patients.

Since she isn’t able to work right now, our parents' income has taken a major hit just as the expenses are starting to add up—including medical travel, rehab, and the prosthetics she’ll need down the road. To get our mom back to the life she loves—including her passion for hiking and cross-country skiing—she will require an advanced prosthetic leg which costs between $15,000–$20,000. This does not include the cost of the specialized rehab she will require or the fact that these prosthetics need to be replaced every 3–5 years for the rest of her life.

"Our amazing friends Robyn Lamb and Andrew Purtill are going through something no one ever expects to face. Andrew has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive sinonasal cancer, and next week he’ll be heading to Vancouver for major surgery to remove the tumour. The surgery will mean the loss of one of his eyes, and he’ll need at least three months to recover and adjust to this huge change.

Anyone who knows Robyn and Andy knows how full of love and kindness they are. They’re the kind of people who have always shown up for everyone else, and now they really need us to show up for them.

While Andrew recovers, Robyn won’t be able to work so she can focus on being there to support him through healing, appointments, and their new normal. This GoFundMe is to help them cover rent, bills, groceries, and travel costs while they get through the next few months.

Sproule Creek Bridge Replacement Project

The Sproule Creek Trail, located just outside Nelson, BC, follows a historic route first established in the early 1900s during the mining and logging era. This beautiful valley once featured a wagon road and a narrow-gauge railway built by the A.G. Lambert Lumber Co. between 1919 and 1930. Today, hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, snowshoers, and cross-country skiers enjoy this multi-use trail system; walking through a living piece of West Kootenay history.

The Friends of Pulpit Rock Society is proud to hold the contract to maintain the Sproule Creek Trail system. We are now raising funds to complete a critical safety upgrade: replacing three aging trail bridges.

2026 Members Show & Sale - All NMAG Members were invited to participate. Our last members’ exhibition took place in 2023, and was a beautiful and eclectic display of the talent, dedication and passion that exists within the Nelson community and area. Work for sale is a 60/40 split between artist and the museum, providing an excellent opportunity for emerging artists to sell their work, as well as support the museum’s exhibitions and programming. The boxing glove serves as a central form—both a symbol of conflict and a container for emotion. Constructed through the slow, deliberate process of hand weaving and textile assembly, the work holds a tension between method and feeling: a quiet, careful making that contrasts with an undercurrent of anger.
